Heiner Binding - Paintings
Cabinet Exhibition Room 10

Room 10 is a small exhibition within the exhibition showing for a duration of three months works by contemporary artists. It can be seen as a continuation of our former series "... in the window" which received a lot of attention. We start with Cologne painter Heiner Binding(born in 1958 in Tuttlingen). He must be mentioned as one artist in our collection (alongside Jürgen Paatz) who develops painting from the almost succinct or fleeting in order to create it anew beyond all craftsmanly virtuosity. His canvases and panels look like weathered remains, like flotsam and jetsam from the history of painting. In his works Binding often creates open grid-structures which divide the surface like loosely connected threads. With his colour compositions he creates rich and complex paintings although using the simplest of means. Manyfold associations are triggered: his direct way of turning his "handwriting" generously into painting certainly recalls Cy Twombly's paintings from the early sixties.
