Bruno Jakob. The Visitors
The paradox that progressive reduction does not necessarily mean a limiting, but on the contrary an opening and a dissolution of boundaries, is something that is proven with works by Bruno Jakob, an artist who was born in Switzerland in 1954 and has been living in New York since the 1980s. Since 1968, he has been working with invisible painting means on paper, canvas, or stone. Instead of pigments, he uses water in its various states of aggregation, but also thoughts, energies, and scents. Visually elusive, Bruno Jakob’s painting is nevertheless real and sensual. It leads us into deep contemplation on the conditions and possibilities painting disposes over at all. Paradoxically, this is triggered by pictorial works that refute much of what is generally regarded as being constitutive for painting.
The Bruno Jakob exhibition is part of this year’s exhibition “show cover hide. Shrine”. It will be on display from 15 January to 5 May 2014 in the rooms of Kolumba.
