Philosophical Discussion (in German)

Asking questions and placing things in question are essential components in works by the Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli (b.1952) and David Weiss (1946–2012). We take up questions posed in their artists' book Will Happiness Find Me?, published in 2002 (on display in Room 20), in order to reflect together, under the direction of Professor Andreas Speer on themes that move us. (You are very welcome to participate. Please join us…)

Oct.16: Should I smash up everything? A discussion on the relationship between man and violence

Oct.23: Could a man today live in a cave with a completely strange woman? A discussion about the difference between man and woman

Oct.30: Why do I let people boss me around? A discussion about the sense of laws and orders that limit the freedom of the individual

Nov.6: Must we atone for everything? A discussion about righteousness

Nov.13: Is my indecisiveness the most beautiful experience of my free will? A discussion about the freedom of man

Nov.20: Is it more important that the world does fine or that I do? A discussion about mercy

Nov.27: Does my soul sometimes drive around at night without an exhaust pipe? A discussion on the soul and its relationship to the body

Dec.4: Is the devil happy with me? A discussion about God

Dec.11: Should I just stay in bed? A discussion about actionism

Dec.18: Should I prevent my wife from admiring criminals on TV? A discussion about fantasy and play

Jan.8: Would I make a good Japanese? A discussion about the role nationalism plays in identity

Jan.15: Can one think (of) everything? A discussion on the limits of thought

Jan.22: Is my lack of knowledge a roomy/ cozy cave? A discussion on education
