Workbook Susanne Kümpel (Kolumba. Werkhefte und Bücher, Vol. 62) with texts by Barbara von Flüe, Sonja Hempel, Jürgen Kisters, Jutta Pöstges and a letter by Katja de Bragança, designed by Maya Hässig, 160 pages (workbook) and 60 pages (text booklet German/English), numerous illustrations, Cologne 2024, 210 x 275 mm, ISBN 978-3-9825800-0-5, € 32.00

Whether through her luminous paintings or delicate ink drawings, Susanne Kümpel's work enriches the Kolumba collection. To mark the acquisition of a substantial body of her work, the first monograph is now being published. The artist has been an active member of the Kunsthaus KAT18 studio community for over 20 years. Kunsthaus KAT18 is a studio and exhibition space in the south of Cologne. Susanne Kümpel's pictures tell stories of everyday life and distance, normality and states of emergency, joy and pain. Above all, they speak of love. The book combines paintings, drawings, ceramics, and, for the first time, lyrical texts by the artist, spanning from the late 1990s to the present day. In the accompanying text booklet, Jutta Pöstges and Katja de Bragança address Susanne Kümpel personally. Barbara von Flüe and Jürgen Kisters place her work in an art historical context and follow the autobiographical traces in her pictures. Sonja Hempel discusses terms such as Art Brut and Outsider Art, and poses fundamental questions about social "normality." All texts are published in simple language, in both German and English. Wrapped in paper and bearing a hand-stamped signature, the book is a bibliophile gem. The first monograph on a great artist!
