Seminar on Philosophy
(in the Reading Room)

On the occasion of the exhibition "playing by heart" the joy and pleasure of thinking led to a cooperation with the Department of Philosophy at Cologne University. This cooperation is less random than it might seem, since in medieval Cologne, St.Kolumba was closely affiliated with the university.

Advanced seminar (open to the public/begins October 16)
Thursdays, 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Meister Eckhart and Cusanus seen from philosophical and theological perspectives (in German)
Lecturers: Prof.Dr.Andreas Speer and Prof.Dr.Saskia Wendel

The thoughts of Meister Eckhart and Nikolaus Cusanus are not only influential in theology but also in philosophy up to this very day. In an interdisciplinary discourse between the two fields of study, central texts by both authors will be discussed with respect to the central motifs of their philosophical and theological models, additionally considering their relevance for contemporary debates, particularly in the fields of anthropology, philosophy of religion, and their doctrines of God.

Visitors to the museum are heartily invited to participate. (Should you intend to take part in the seminar or philosophical discussion on a regular basis, we recommend that you purchase a yearly museum pass for € 20.)
