Peter Ludwig Friedrich Baudri
1808 – 1874 Painter and member of the musuem's board Peter Baudri was born in Elberfeld on 20 April 1808. After first learning the craft of wallpaper in his father’s business, he later began an art education as painter in 1831. In 1836 he went to Munich to study at the Academy of Art (under Peter von Cornelius). From 1836 to 1840, he undertook lengthy travels through Austria and Hungary. In 1842 Baudri trained as a portrait painter at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art. In 1848 he established himself as a portrait painter in Cologne, where he later became secretary to the First German Convention of Catholics. From 1851 to 1864 he edited the “Voice of Christian Art”. In 1854 he was summoned to join the board of the Diözesanmuseum, subsequently founding a workshop for glass painting. From 1856 to 1871, he was on the Cologne City Council. In 1871 Baudri became president of the 21st Catholic Convention. From 1873 to 1874 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives. In 1874 he became a member of the Reichstag.
