El Canto de la Sibila (16th sound workshop)
Ars Choralis Coeln & guests

There have been musical interpretations of the Songs of the Sibyls since the 12th century, which nowadays are still part of the traditional rituals of the Midnight Mass of Christmastide on the Iberian Peninsula. The oldest melody to which the Canto de la Sibila is sung is to be found in Limoges in the Saint Martial manuscripts. From there, it reached the Iberian Peninsula with the conquests of James I of Aragon in the 13th century. Here, the song attained such popularity that over the course of time it has been translated from Latin into Spanish, Catalan, Valencian and Majorcan.
