Memorial for Joseph Marioni

On September 6, 2024, the American painter Joseph Marioni passed away in New York at the age of 81. We had been very close to him since the mid-1990s. His work is one of the monographic focal points of our collection. In cooperation with the gallery owners Rolf Hengesbach (Wuppertal) and Mark Müller (Zurich), a memorial event was held on November 1, which was musically framed by the pianist Alexander Paeffgen (grand piano). Peter Tollens, Reinhard Ermen, Michael Metten, Rolf Hengesbach and Joseph Staten were among the approximately 80 invited guests, some of whom had traveled from far and wide, who spoke at the event. Stefan Kraus was responsible for the introduction and moderation. His small-format blue painting from 1999 is already part of the annual Artist at Work exhibition as a counterpart to the Romanesque ivory cross. To celebrate, we installed a commemorative exhibition with three large paintings from the period 1974 to 2016, which was on display up to and including February (see under exhibitions).
